They should not be overly hot, nor should they be too low. This way, when the bass is in the mix, there’s no need to be constantly lowering and raising the fader. The track should sound natural and not squashed. Directions 1. To begin, open your electric bass track in a Pro Tools session. Solo it out and then play it, so that you can hear what you’re working with. The track has already been EQ’d, but with compression, you can make it even punchier. 2. Select the default compressor plug-in insert, opening the compressor window. If you prefer, you can now select the Bass Guitar preset, but we recommend setting the compressor up manually instead.
